A Wickedly Fun Night at Halloween on the Hill and Halloween Horrors at Hoyt Sherman Place10/31/2024 What a night! Abe and I had an incredible time at the Halloween on the Hill event, followed by the Halloween Horrors at Hoyt Sherman Place Art Fair. The night was packed with spooky fun, amazing costumes, and all for an incredible cause—fundraising for the local food pantry. We were thrilled to meet our buddy Erica there, who was also enjoying the festivities. From start to finish, it was nothing short of magical. The historic homes in the neighborhood were decked out in the most creative and spooky Halloween decorations. It felt like stepping into a Halloween movie, especially with the eerie atmosphere and hauntingly beautiful decor. One of the highlights was the wickedly awesome coven of witches that added a chilling touch to the evening. They surrounded Abe in his wheelchair cackling when one of the witches caught a glimpse of his skeleton outfit and proclaimed "He's a little too boney for me!!" and they all scampered off as he giggled with joy. There was also a Thriller flash dance performance that had the crowd captivated, and a creepy clown house that gave us just the right amount of fright. Of course, I couldn’t resist visiting the horror-themed art show, where I found the perfect painting for my husband from Earl Art—he’s going to love it! Not only was the night filled with thrills, but it also gave us a great workout! The hills were steep, but they made the experience feel even more like a walk through a haunted adventure. We even got hugs and candy from Nobody Cares, which was such a sweet touch. A lot of my Des Moines friends don’t even know this event exists, but I can’t recommend it enough. It’s surreal, fun, and truly made me feel like I was living in an 80’s Halloween movie—complete with spooky vibes, great company, and a whole lot of laughs. If you haven’t been, it’s definitely something to add to your list for next year! |
