It’s been a long and difficult road for Abram, but today, I am beyond proud to share his incredible progress in physical therapy. After his Achilles lengthening surgery at Gillette Hospital didn’t go as expected, we were unsure if he would ever walk again. Abram spent two months completely bedridden, followed by one month in rehabilitation, where the pressure sores he endured were so deep and intense that he could hardly bear any weight on his legs. You can see in the video that his feet are stuck in place like a Barbie doll's feet.
But today, he was doing toe taps in therapy—small, seemingly simple movements, but ones that are monumental for him. These toe taps are actually at the same height as the first step on his accessible bus, which has become the next big goal. Someday, we hope to see Abram walking up the steps to get on his bus to school, even though he absolutely loves the lift and enjoys bossing his bus driver, Ron, around (who, by the way, is a great sport about it). I am just so proud of Abram. After everything he’s been through, he continues to show incredible strength and determination. Most adults would have given up after everything he’s faced, but not Abram. He is a rock star, and every step he takes—no matter how small—brings us closer to new possibilities. We still have a long way to go, but with every milestone, I’m reminded of just how resilient and amazing he is. You can watch the video here. Don't mind me tripping over the exercise bike while I walk backwards. |
